Health, nutrition and fitness is a BIG part of who I am. But it wasn't always this way.
At age 15 I began to experience extreme fatigue and troublesome gut problems which included severe bloating and pain. Doctors were clueless with every test coming back as ‘normal’. But I felt far from normal. I felt sick, frustrated and confused.
But I refused to accept that there was nothing I could do, and over the years that followed I read everything I could get my hands on about what could be causing my symptoms. Everything seemed to point to one thing – the food I was eating. That marked a turning point for me. I was blown away by what I was learning and subsequently overhauled my diet completely. Sugar and processed foods were the first to go. It took time, and it was certainly not easy. But as I fought through the withdrawals and cravings, I noticed a HUGE change. Finally, my energy levels started to increase and stabilise, my brain fog began to clear, and my immune system and digestive issues resolved
By my mid 20’s I had become skilled at creating my own recipes - born from the necessity of not being able to find foods in the supermarket I could eat. These recipes lead to the creation of a wellbeing blog, which later became the foundation upon which I launched my own health food range. It was at that time that I also started running cooking demonstrations and classes, all with the aim to help others turn their health around by removing or cutting back on refined sugar and processed foods.
As time went on I became more and more immersed in nutrition and health, and went onto study nutritional medicine with my goal to become a holistic nutritionist. However, as I neared the end of my first year of study it hit me hard - it’s not actually a lack of information or education that keeps people trapped in their cravings and sugar addiction. There are literally thousands of books, articles and recipes at the touch of a button (thanks Google).
The real issue is HOW we actually make the change.
What is it that is stopping you from giving up or reducing sugar starting right now? Why can’t we just make the change? What is it that makes you stand in your fridge light at 10pm eating the leftover dessert? What drives you to eat that tub of ice-cream after a stressful day at the office? You already know the harmful effects of sugar, otherwise you wouldn't be here. So what is it that stops you from saying no?
It’s what’s happening inside of you, inside of your mind.
Saying no is hard.
For many it may even seem impossible. Even when faced with a serious diet related health issue such as diabetes 2, heart disease, obesity, hormonal issues, or even cancer, it can just feel too hard to stop. Unfortunately willpower alone isn’t enough to stop eating sugar, no matter how much it’s harming you.
So I swapped my studies from nutrition to hypnotherapy, and became an expert in understanding the role that your subconscious mind plays in the decisions that you make every day, especially the ones you may feel powerless to change, for example, decisions about what you will or won’t eat.
Today I combine all my experience in nutrition, coaching and hypnotherapy, and specialise in helping women regain control over their sugar cravings so that they can finally cut down or quit the amount of sugar they eat for good.
